A cake smash is an adorable tradition to mark your baby's 1st birthday - the biggest milestone in your little one's life. These sessions can take place outdoors, in-studio, or in the comfort of your own home.
I'll work with you to plan the aesthetic of your session from location to wardrobe and everything in-between - to ensure your photos suit your style. In addition, mom will be granted access to the client closet for family photos, so you can rock a stunning flowing dress.
Every cake smash session begins with family portraits without the cake, (parents and siblings are included). Then, following your family photo session, watch your baby get plastered in cake, as they have the time of their life indulging their sweet tooth. It's hilarious. It's exciting. It's an unforgettable experience.
cake smash photography faq
You should book your baby's cake smash session three to six weeks before their 1st birthday. It's best to shoot cake smash sessions two to three weeks before their 1st birthday to ensure you have the photos before your celebrations and share them on your child's birthday if desired.
When should i book my baby's cake smash session?
I provide a cake stand, a cake topper, 5'inch cake, decor/props, and time at a luxurious studio space. I prefer to keep my photos classic and minimal rather than overloaded with cheesy decorations. Please note specialty cakes are only available at an additional cost.
what do you include in your cake smash sessions?
Please bring lots of baby wipes and a change of clothing to clean your baby after your session if you decide to shoot outdoors or in-studio. This will ensure your baby is as comfortable as possible and they won't get cake all over your car. Then you can give them a proper bath after you get home.
how will i clean my baby after an outdoor or in-studio cake smash session?
do you include family photos without the cake? and cake smash photos?
Yes, all cake smash sessions include family and individual portraits without the cake. Siblings and parents are always welcome to attend - and participate. You can choose any 35 photos of your choice from the cake smash session with the option to purchase additional photos for $15+HST per image.
what should my baby wear to their cake smash photoshoot?
I highly recommend a simple dress or skirt without a top for baby girls. And, overall or pants without a top for baby boys. I'll always offer mom the option to choose an outfit from my client closet.
where do you shoot CAKE SMASH photos?
We can shoot your newborn photos in-studio, at your home, or any locations of your choice. I work with clients across the GTA in Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Ajax, Brampton, Markham, Mississauga, Oakville, Pickering, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Newmarket and Thornhill.
do you use lots of props at CAKE SMASH photoshoots?
I prefer to keep the decor minimal, so the photos have a timeless and simple aesthetic. Having too many balloons, loads of garland, and other props starts to look cheesy and takes away from the focus of the moment. However, if there is a decor setup in the studio, we can always incorporate these installations into your cake smash session.

Here’s where my original idea came from... after I shot @golden_globetrotter’s sunrise session in Jan. 2021 (Juno Beach, Florida), clients kept referencing those images for their upcoming maternity session. Truthfully, I was desperate to do a sunrise maternity photoshoot in Toronto. However, it took 2.5 years to finally convince another woman in her third trimester to work with me at 5am (I don’t blame you, if you won’t get out of bed this early at 32+ weeks). Anyhow, when I started chatting with @shaylac33 about her booking, she fell in love with this idea and opted to let me run with my sunrise vision at the Scarborough Bluffs. And, I can only say, it was definitely worth the 3:30am wake up call.
